Carrie Underwood Wins Favorite Female Artist - Country Award

Carrie Underwood now has eight American Music Award trophies to line her mantel or display in her trophy room. Pretty soon she's going to need a longer mantel or a bigger display room.

Underwood won the fan-voted American Music Award last night (Nov. 23) for "Favorite Female Artist - Country." The award was presented during the AMA show that aired live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Among the singer-songwriter's eight AMA trophies are four consecutive wins for each of her albums claiming "Favorite Country Album" honors: "Some Hearts" in 2007, "Carnival Ride" in 2008, "Play On" in 2010 and "Blown Away" in 2012, according to a press release.

Underwood's new album, "Greatest Hits: Decade #1," drops Dec. 9. The album's debut single, "Something in the Water," is climbing the charts. The 25-track collection also includes the new song "Little Toy Guns" (written by Underwood, Chris DeStefano, and Hillary Lindsey), as well as four songs in never-before-released versions.

The former "American Idol" winner is the first female artist to be twice named as the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year. She was recognized as Pollstar's Top Female Country Touring Artist for each of her headlining tours in 2008, 2010 and 2012, according to a press release. Her four albums, "Some Hearts," "Carnival Ride," "Play On" and "Blown Away" have been certified multi-platinum or platinum, and they have tallied 38 weeks at No.1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart with songs that have now been streamed more than 800 million times worldwide.
