Superstar singers Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Lorde sat side-by-side in the audience of the 2014 American Music Awards held last night (Nov. 23) in Los Angeles. Both Swift and Gomez performed on the televised show.
When Gomez was on stage pouring her emotions into her poignant latest single, "The Heart Wants What It Wants," her friend Swift teared up. The song is thought to be about Gomez's ex-boyfriend, pop star Justin Bieber, ABC News reported.
Swift was clearly channeling Gomez's pain during the heart-tugging rendition of the song. The track is off of Gomez's upcoming "For You" album.
Gomez delivered the song against a backdrop with images of angel wings and tears.
Gomez had the audience captivated with the song's lyrics, such as "Hand over heart, I'm praying ... That I'm gonna make it out alive" and "The bed's getting cold and you're not here ... The future that we hold is so unclear."
Bieber was not in the AMA audience, but Gomez confided to Ryan Seacrest in a recent interview that her ex thought the song was "beautiful," according to the NY Daily News.
