If the draft were held tomorrow, the Jacksonville Jaguars would have the first overall pick.
Several football observers, including ESPN's Draft Insider Mel Kiper Jr., have Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota as the top overall prospect. However, Jacksonville is unlikely to take a quarterback after using the 2014 No. 3 overall pick on Blake Bortles. Should that be the case, the Jags could trade out of the top spot. Right now, it appears as if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the most likely team to make a move up the draft board.
"I'm projecting a trade here for the Raiders," Walter Cherepinsky of Yardbarker wrote. "...There will be plenty of interest from teams looking to land Mariota, and the Buccaneers might be most desperate after what has transpired in recent weeks. Tampa has to find a franchise quarterback to be competitive in the NFC South. I also considered the Jets as the team to move up...but I now have reason to believe that the Buccaneers would be the favorite to move up."
Tampa Bay is projected to pick fourth at the moment, ahead of other QB needy teams such as the New York Jets and St. Louis Rams. This only adds to their ammunition for a potential draft day move as Jacksonville would want to remain in the top five.
The Buccaneers starting quarterback duo of Josh McCown and Mike Glennon have combined to throw 17 touchdowns against 14 interceptions with a completion percentage of 59 and a QBR of 54.9. Tampa is just 2-9 this season.
Coach Lovie Smith desperately needs to upgrade the quarterback position if he hopes to find any success with the team in the second year of his contract.
