'Star Wars' Spinoff to Be a Sci-Fi 'Dirty Dozen?'

It is a "known" thing that there are Star Wars spin-off films in the works. We know one is being directed by Gareth Edwards ("Godzilla") and written by Gary Whitta ("The Book of Eli"). Now we may know what it's about. According to WeGotThis Covered (via Slashfilm) the movie will be set before the "Episode IV: New Hope" era and will focus on bounty hunters. What will these bounty hunters be doing, you ask? Why stealing the Death Star plans, of course.

I must say that this is a great set-up for a spin-off flick. There's been a good deal of conjecture in regard to a Boba Fett movie...and his could be that movie, in all likelihood. This premise takes something known (i.e., the Rebel Alliance obtaining the Death Star plans) and turns it on its head. It is set in the most familiar era of the "Star Wars" saga, and it even has room for Darth Vader to make an appearance. It would also be something completely new in "Star Wars," focusing on a team of roguish bounty hunters instead of white knight heroes.

On thing though: it will be interesting to find out whether the Rebels hired the bounty hunters... or if they will end up purchasing the plans from them. I like the idea of Boba Fett leading a squad of killers on a mission and ending up with the plans instead of whatever he thought he was boosting.

Does a sci-fi version of the "Dirty Dozen" set in the "Star Wars" universe appeal to you? Leave a comment below with your opinions.
