A woman has died after allegedly fatally shooting herself in the head by accident with a gun she bought because of civil unrest in Ferguson, CNN reported from sources on Monday.
It happened on Friday in an area of St. Louis that is dotted with abandoned lots next to a football stadium.
Becca Campbell, 26, was riding in a car with her boyfriend when they got into an accident, triggering the gun to fire. Her 33-year-old boyfriend was driving at the time.
The unidentified boyfriend told officers that the two had bought a gun because they feared what might happen after the grand jury decision on the Michael Brown shooting, according to sources. While they were driving, the boyfriend says he waved the gun jokingly while saying they were ready for Ferguson.
He rear ended another car as he ducked to get out of the way of the gun, causing the firearm to go off. Campbell was rushed to the hospital, but died, Politics USA reported.
The investigation is ongoing because police want to double-check the boyfriend's story. Gun trace studies will be done as part of the investigation.
A decision on whether Darren Wilson will be indicted for Brown's death in August is expected to come Monday evening.
