Lost in all of the hysteria and hype surrounding Edward Snowden's revelation that the National Security Agency has been monitoring the phone records of American citizens far more extensively than previously thought is what will happen in the aftermath to Snowden and his loved ones.
Inside Edition identified that Lindsay Mills is the girlfriend that Snowden left behind when he fled the United States for Hong Kong.
Before the information was made public Snowden told Mills that he would have to go away for a few weeks without giving a reason why.
"That is not an uncommon occurrence for someone who has spent the last decade in the intelligence world," Snowden told the Guardian.
Prior to her boyfriend becoming one of the world's most wanted fugitives Mills kept a blog called "L's Journey," that is no longer online.
In a post on Monday Mills appears to describe the situation she is currently going through.
"My world has opened and closed all at once. Leaving me lost at sea without a compass. Surely there will be villainous pirates, distracting mermaids, and tides of change in this new open water chapter of my journey. But at the moment all I can feel is alone."
Her blog was touted as depicting the "adventures of a world-traveling, pole-dancing super hero," according to the Huffington Post.
Mills appeared to be talking about Snowden as her blog post continued.
"For the first time in my life I feel strong enough to be on my own. Though I never imagined my hand would be so forced. As I type this on my tear-streaked keyboard I'm reflection on all the faces that have graced my path. The ones I laughed with. The ones I've held. The one I've grown to love the most. And the ones I never go to bid adieu. But sometimes life doesn't afford proper goodbyes."
Mills may not have the opportunity to reunite with Snowden for quite some time as Snowden told the Guardian that he does not expect to ever be able to go home.
