Nintendo continues to see success with the "Super Smash Bros." franchise, announcing Tuesday that the Wii U version of the game has become the fastest-selling title to be released in the U.S.
The record was set by selling 490,000 physical and digital units within three days, from Nov. 21-23, according to CNET. The consumer electronics giant did not reveal how much the game made outside of the U.S.
The announcement follows only four days after "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U became available in the U.S. Mario, Link from the "Legend of Zelda" franchise and other iconic Nintendo characters appear as part of the fighting game's roster.
Nintendo said it hasn't released a "Super Smash Bros." console game in six years, and that the success of "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U's launch may have come from the popularity of the franchise, SlashGear reported.
The Wii U version, the fifth installment in the series, comes with several new features, such as new, exclusive characters and an 8-player mode, and players can also create their own levels. Nintendo plans on eventually giving gamers the option of sharing custom arenas with their friends.
With Black Friday only a few days away and Christmas around the corner, "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U is expected to see even greater success. The game will become available to European fans starting Nov. 28.
Nintendo will release the game in Australia on Nov. 29 and Japan on Dec. 6.
