Kron Gracie will shift from wrestling to MMA next month when he makes his debut against Hyung Soo Kim.
The lightweight bout will take place at Real Fight Championship 1, which is scheduled to be held on Dec. 23 in Japan, according to MMA Fighting.
The son of Rickson Gracie, a legend in MMA as well as jiu-jitsu, Kron is a multiple-time grappling and jiu-jitsu champion, having beaten Shinya Aoki, Sergio Moraes and other high-level competitors.
Rickson said in an interview in October that Kron is focused, and that his son wants to make jiu-jitsu relevant in MMA, MMA Fighting reported.
"He's not doing crosstraining to work on his weaknesses. He won't start boxing, kickboxing, wrestling. He will use his jiu-jitsu to neutralize the wrestler, the striker, and work on his expertise," Rickson said, adding that he doesn't want Kron to learn how to win fights with one knockout punch.
"He would need another life just to learn how to deal with fighters who come from his background," he said. "He has to learn how to avoid fighting his opponent's game."
Other fighters expected to participate in Real Fight Championship 1 include Roberto Satoshi, who will take on fellow lightweight Jeong Doo-Jae, and BJJ champion Gabi Garcia, who will make her MMA debut against an unnamed opponent.
