NFL Rumors: Robert Griffin III Being Benched by Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins intend to start Colt McCoy over Robert Griffin III against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The Redskins reportedly still want RGIII to be a part of their long term plans, a team source told Schefter. The Redskins are "hitting the reset button" at the moment but still plan to have a big offseason.

Washington will finally have its full allotment of draft picks after trading three first-round picks and one second-round pick for the chance to draft Griffin in 2012. The team will also be under the salary cap and apparently plan to spend big to improve the roster.

Owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen still believe that head coach Jay Gruden can develop Griffin and help him return to his rookie form.

However, the embattled quarterback is coming off a brutal outing against the San Francisco 49ers in which he was sacked five times and knocked down eight.

McCoy has completed 36 of 42 pass attempts for 427 yards, one touchdown and one interception in just two games this season.
