Three-Year-Old Shoots Mother In Oklahoma

A Tulsa, OK woman died from a gunshot wound to the head after her 3-year-old son came across a handgun in their home on Monday, the New York Times reported.

While changing her 1-year-old daughter's diaper, Christa Engles, 26, was shot by the older child and died from her injuries. She died an hour later and was found by her grandmother, who she shared the home with.

Her husband and mother also live on the same street, but they weren't home at the time of the shooting.

"The grandmother came in and supposedly found the two children covered in blood," neighbor Vera Bennett told KOKI-TV.

The toddler found a large caliber rifle under a couch, and there were several guns in the house, police said. The 3-year-old apparently repeated "mommy shot," over and over again when he was taken away from the home to be interviewed by police.

The woman's husband, Brian Engles, was driving a truck out of state when he discovered that his wife had been shot, and eventually died. He told his Facebook followers to always tell your loved ones how much you care about them, the Daily News reported.

"I lost my Wife to an accident yesterday," he wrote early Tuesday. "Don't forget to tell your loved ones they are loved. You really never know when the last I love you really is the last."

Christa Engles was in the military, and pictures of her on Facebook show her in uniform.
