Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is one of those people who seems to enjoy saying semi-inflammatory things - things that aren't altogether bad or negative or incendiary, but things that he knows will get the media all riled up - because he likes the fact that it will draw attention to him and his team.
So, it is no surprise that in an appearance on NFL Network's NFL AM earlier today, Jones decided to rave about embattled Washington Redskins quarterback, Robert Griffin III, hearkening back to a game in Week 17 of 2012 when Griffin led his Skins past Jones' Boys, to base his gushing admiration on, according to Conor Orr of NFL.com.
"Well, I'm a fan of RGIII," Jones said. "Right on this field two years ago, or maybe it was three seasons ago, he put on a show and had a game that just floored me. And they won, and they won in large part because of his play at quarterback. I thought 'my goodness, and we're going to have to be playing this guy for years and years.' And so he's got it."
"Once you see a player do it, especially if you see him do it two or three times, you know he can do it. And of course he's a driven young man. I'm a big admirer of RGIII."
That's all well and good, and in the grand scheme of things is probably much ado about nothing.
But it raises an interesting question - would RGIII be a fit in Dallas were, say, Tony Romo's back injury to turn out to be much more severe and/or possibly career-threatening?
It, like most potential blockbuster scenarios, seems very unlikely - until they actually end up happening.
According to NFL Network reporter, Albert Breer, there have already been discussions league-wide about Griffin's potential trade value, with the consensus being a mid-round pick, though Washington would no doubt ask for more.
Unless and until something was to actually get done, this is all just conjecture. The only things certain at this point are that RGIII is very near the end of the line in Washington and Jones is a big admirer of his skill set.
