Chet Hanks, a.ka. Chet Haze, announced in a new Instagram video that he has struggled with substance abuse for the last eight years.
The son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson decided to get help at age 24 after picking up the bad habits at 16 years old. He had accomplished 50 days of sobriety when he posted the video on Nov. 19.
"I can honestly say I'm the happiest I've ever been," Chet wrote in the caption. "I'm thankful for my family and everybody that cares about me, including my fans."
Haze attributed his newfound sobriety to the programs Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous that helped him "rise above this disease." He also offered his support to any of his 16.4 thousands followers who are struggling with addiction.
"I'm learning to accept my faults and be ok with being human," the Northwestern University student wrote. "If anybody that sees this struggles with addiction, feel free to reach out. Thank you all for the love and support. GOD IS REAL!!!"
