At E3 Monday NBA 2K14 unveiled a new trailer for the top-selling NBA video game for the past few years. In it, reigning MVP LeBron James meets VideoGame James, his virtual counterpart. The two engage in a bit of banter and then viewers are allowed to see actual PlayStation 4 game footage from NBA 2K14.
The announcement that LeBron James would be on the cover was made last week on June 6. This is the first time in the four-time MVP’s career he has been the cover athlete for a videogame.
"My friends, family and fans all know how much I love NBA 2K,” said James in a statement. "I remember, as a kid, getting so excited for the game to come out and see who was on the cover, and it's amazing to be a part of this great tradition. I love partnerships and opportunities that connect me directly with fans.”
"I know from my own experience and now watching my own kids, NBA 2K is among the coolest and purest ways for fans to connect to the NBA. I love being a part of it,” James added.
Jason Argent, senior vice president of sports operations for 2K Sports, called James the “perfect” choice for the cover.
If you pre-order “NBA 2K14” you will receive a King James Bonus Pack. The bonus pack comes with more content for the “Path to Greatness Mode,” a LeBron James Signature Skill, an unlocked LeBron James in Blacktop Mode and 10,000 in virtual currency.
NBA 2K14 is scheduled to hit stores on October 1.
