UPDATE: CBS News tweeted that Smith was found at a Manhattan diner on Wednesday. According to ABC, she got off the jitney in Sag Harbor but then got back in and returned to the city. Someone at the restaurant recognized Smith and alerted police.
Famed New York City restaurateur and former model B. Smith (real name Barbara) has been reported missing in New York. According to USA Today, the 65-year-old was last seen around 8 p.m. on Tuesday in Southampton, Long Island.
She had just returned from a New York City trip via a jitney. Smith's husband of 22 years Dan Gasby reported her missing after she never returned home. According to USA Today, the business woman was wearing a pink shirt, blue sweater, jeans and black sneakers at the time of her disappearance.
A local Long Island man told the Sag Harbor Express newspaper that he saw Gasby around 10 p.m. on Tuesday looking for Smith. Police have confirmed that a missing persons report was filed and are asking for the public's help in locating Smith.
In June, Smith shockingly announced that she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She told CBS News about four years ago she started noticing that her memory was going and she kept repeating herself.
Smith said she went to a doctor to find out what was wrong before she even told her husband she was feeling ill. After several tests, Smith said doctors told her that her brain was covered in amyloid, a sticky protein that damages the nerves and is present in people suffering from Alzheimer's.
She told CBS that her diagnosis made her "sad" but she was determined to stay positive.
"I think the future's going to be fine," she said. "I'm going to do my best to make it work out for me and for as many people that I can possibly help, too."
