Fake Thanksgiving Dates Rented By Singles To Bring Home To Mom

The holidays are supposed to be the "happiest time of year" despite all the stress associated with it - especially for those who are forced to answer the dreaded "why are you still single" question when visiting the family.

That's why a man named Nicky Schmidt started the trend of rentable Thanksgiving dates on Craigslist.

"It's Thanksgiving," begins his post. "Want to skip that long, insulting conversation about how you're still single? About how your parents really want more grandchildren? Well, look no further! ... If you'd like to have me as your strictly platonic date for Thanksgiving, but have me pretend to be in a very long or serious relationship with you to torment your family, I'm game."

He markets himself as the man parents don't want you to date in a humorous attempt to get back at those who pester you at family functions throughout the year regarding your relationship status.

"[I'm] a 28-year-old felon with no high school degree and a dirty old van one year younger than me," he writes. His felony is an attempted battery charge-- he was caught breaking up a fight at age 22, according to The Washington Post.

Others started jumping on the trend and listings for Thanksgiving dates (both men and women) are now popping up on Craigslist throughout the country.

Apparently women are actually interested in bringing a fake date found online home for the holidays--Schmidt told The Washington Post he received about 20 serious responses to his post.
