Come February 2014, viewers and fans of the iconic late night talk show "The Tonight Show" will find themselves in for some change. Not only will Jimmy Fallon be taking the reins from Jay Leno but the show's title will also be changed to "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon".
The name change isn't something new. It was called "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" during Carson's stint at hosting the program. However, the show changed its title to "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" when Leno took over in 1992.
The new show will move back to 30 Rock in New York when Fallon takes over. Some more announcements have also been made. Amy Ozols, who's been a writer on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" since the show kicked off in 2009, has been roped in to produce the show. She is credited with writing and producing some of the most popular parodies on "Late Night" which took off on "The Real Housewives", "Glee" and "Game of Thrones". She also wrote and produced Fallon's opening to the Emmy Awards in 2010.
"It's been so fun working with Amy these past four years - she's been a standout writer and producer since we started 'Late Night.' She puts so much thought and care into everything she does and we share the same vision about making the best television that we can produce. I know she'll put that same intelligence, cleverness and care into 'The Tonight Show.' This is exciting," said Fallon in an official announcement.
Lorne Michaels, executive producer on "Late Night" will also move to "The Tonight Show", echoed Fallon's sentiment and considered Ozols to be the right choice to lead "The Tonight Show" into the future.
Fallon's elevation to the much-coveted helm of "The Tonight Show" was made public in April this year. "I'm really excited to host a show that starts today instead of tomorrow," joked Fallon at the time. "Congratulations Jimmy. I hope you're as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you're the old guy. If you need me, I'll be at the garage," said Leno.
