Turner Classic Movies announced it has partnered with Disney in an effort to broaden its reach in family entertainment. Disney will equally benefit from the partnership, which will provide an update to the beloved Walt Disney World ride "The Great Movie Ride" and expose new generations to some of Walt Disney Studios' earliest productions on the classic movie channel.
"At TCM it's our mission to share and celebrate the greatest films of all time," Jennifer Dorian, general manager of TCM, said in a statement. "Disney provides the perfect relationship through which we can share the magic of the movies with every generation, not only through an amazing new showcase on TCM, but also through newly refreshed components of 'The Great Movie Ride' Attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios."
TCM will curate new pre-show and finale elements for the Disney's Hollywood Studios attraction that guides guests through the greatest moments in film history since the 1930s. Visitors can expect the fresh new features by spring.
Robert Osbourne, TCM host, will welcome families in a pre-ride video that will air in the queue line. The revered film historian will share insights on a few of the movies riders will encounter throughout their journey.
The ride's finale will feature an all-new montage of great movie moments. Visitors can then have their pictures taken with a classic movie theme as they exit.
In exchange for sprucing up the amusement ride, Walt Disney Studios will offer some of its earliest productions for TCM's new on-air showcase, "Treasures from the Disney Vault."
The recurring series will feature live-action films ("Treasure Island" from 1950), animated features ("The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" from 1949), classic nature documentaries ("The Living Desert" from 1953) and made-for-TV specials ("Davy Crockett" series). The first "Treasures" showcase will premiere on Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. and air until 5:15 a.m. on Dec. 22.
"We are looking forward to this collaboration, which complements Disney's commitment to telling great stories and immersing our guests in family entertainment," said Tiffany Rende, senior vice president of Disney Corporate Alliances and Operating Participants.
