‘Red Band Society’ Canceled: Fox to Pull Hospital-Comedy After 13 Episodes?

Fox's "Red Band Society" has a very dim future. The hospital-comedy will finish its initial 13-episode run with the fall finale scheduled for Dec. 3, according to Entertainment Weekly. However, it's not clear if Fox will air the remaining three episodes.

The network has not commented on the rumored cancellation, and the show's official Twitter page has not made any mention of it. EW reported that there is still a chance for Fox to pick up "Red Band Society" for a second season, but it's not likely.

The show, which stars Octavia Spencer as strict nurse Dena Jackson, has been struggling to find its footing. The series premiere nabbed only 4 million viewers and the Nov. 18 episode drew in a low of 2.9 million.

"Red Band Society" isn't the only show on the chopping block. Fox canceled a number of new shows including "Utopia" and reduced "Mulaney" from 16 episodes to 13. The only new show surviving on the network is the Batman-prequel "Gotham," which follows a young James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as he works his way up from Detective to Commissioner in Gotham City.

"Gotham" already received a full season order from Fox, and will most likely return for a second season. "Gotham's" 22 episodes will take it through to February 2016, according to the Daily Mail.

"'Red Band Society' is a provocative high school drama told through the eyes of a group of teenagers who meet as patients in a hospital pediatric ward," a description of the show reads.

It stars Spencer, Dave Annable, Nolan Sotillo, Ciara Bravo, Charlie Rowe, Griffin Gluck, Wilson Cruz, Astro, Rebecca Rittenhouse and Zoe Levin.
