It was announced today that indefinitely suspended NFL running back Ray Rice has won his appeal and has been reinstated by the league, according to ESPN.
A source who has read the decision told ESPN investigative reporter Don Van Natta Jr. that U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones, who heard Rice's appeal earlier this month, concluded Rice did not lie or mislead the NFL.
Rice is now a free agent and can sign with any team he chooses, though it seems that many organizations are wary of the potential fan backlash of bringing Rice on board at this point.
Rice was initially suspended for two games after video emerged showing him dragging his fiancée out of an Atlantic City casino elevator. NFL commissioner Roger Gooddell later altered his suspension and made it indefinite on Sept. 8 when a second video, which showed Rice striking his fiancée and knocking her unconscious, came to light.
A league spokesman told ESPN's Andrew Brandt that they would not pursue any further action against Rice and would instead accept the ruling.
Rice, 27, is a former member of the Baltimore Ravens. He rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 touchdowns in six seasons with the Ravens and helped them to victory in Super Bowl XLVII.
