Mississippi State (10-1) is still in contention for a playoff spot and needs a win on Saturday to remain that way. While the Bulldogs need a win to keep their hopes of a postseason berth alive, coach Dan Mullen insists hanging onto the Egg Bowl trophy he won last year is just as important.

"Every one of these is as important as the other one," he said, via the Associated Press. "This is the biggest game of the year for us. This is one to me - the records never really matter - it's all about winning the game and getting bragging rights in the state for another year."

Mississippi State's only defeat of the season came in a 25-20 loss on Nov. 15 to Alabama, snapping the Bulldogs' nine-game winning streak. The team responded the next week, though, blowing out Vanderbilt with a 51-0 win.

Ole Miss (8-3), meanwhile, started the season strong with seven straight wins before faltering down the stretch. They lost two straight and bounced back before being routed last week by Arkansas, 30-0.

After studying the game tape of the blowout, Rebels coach Hugh Freeze didn't find anything surprising: the six turnovers played a huge part in losing the game.

"I tried to find fault in effort and I didn't see it," he said. "You can't turn the ball over like that and put your backs against the wall in this league."
