Mikkel Boedker entered the NHL as a highly touted prospect with a vast amount of skill and limitless potential with almost no perceivable ceiling.
Now, after seven seasons in the league, Boedker, the former first-round pick, eighth overall, of the Arizona Coyotes, is still much more potential than known quantity.
He's never topped more than 51 points in a season - which is the total he managed last year, far and away the best statistical season of his career - and never had more than 19 goals - also coming last season (h/t to Hockey-Reference.com).
The limited production overall coupled with the fact that his value is probably the highest it may ever get after last year's semi-breakout season, could mean that Arizona is open to moving the winger.
"The Arizona Coyotes have been very patient with former first-round pick Mikkel Boedker over the years, resisting trade offers from teams that wanted to buy low on the talented but thus-far underachieving Dane," writes Eklund of Hockeybuzz.com. "However, with the Coyotes spinning their wheels, I am hearing now that the 24-year-old might be available. Most of the interest seems to be coming from Eastern Division clubs. New Jersey, the Islanders, Flyers and Ottawa all have varying degrees of interest."
The Coyotes are currently 9-12-3 and in second-to-last place in the Pacific Division. They were shut out in their last game, a Saturday affair that saw the Calgary Flames dominate them from beginning to end.
They do play their next game against the lowly Edmonton Oilers, so some relief is possibly on the way.
But for a team that is 25th in goals per game and 24th in goals against this season, barring a dramatic turnaround, does not look to be Stanley Cup bound, according to ESPN.
Thus, if offers of a quality nature come rolling in for Boedker, they'd be silly not to listen.
