Last week, I examined the top five most likely destinations for Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III should he be traded. ESPN dove into a similar exercise and came up with one new name and one familiar name as potentially realistic landing spots for the former darling of D.C. Both teams were labeled as having high interest.
Those teams were the Philadelphia Eagles and the Buffalo Bills. Here's what they had to say.
"Given the way Nick Foles has played this season, and Mark Sanchez's expiring contract, the Eagles would have to look very hard at acquiring Griffin," ESPN's Eagles reporter Phil Sheridan wrote. "Coach Chip Kelly's offense would be a perfect fit for Griffin's skill set, and Kelly himself would be just the guy to restore Griffin's confidence. Remember: The previous transaction between these franchises was the Donovan McNabb trade."
This does make some modicum of sense. Philly's front office reportedly "soured" on Foles even before he suffered a broken collarbone. The real question is would the Redskins be willing to move Griffin to a division rival?
How about the Bills?
"Why not?" ESPN's Bills reporter Mike Rodak wrote. "The Bills are stuck at quarterback, likely falling short of the playoffs this season with Kyle Orton and already having tried EJ Manuel as their franchise guy. Without a first-round pick next year, the Bills need to get creative at QB and RGIII is a great way to do that."
Amid all the injuries, coaching issues and just down right poor play, it appears likely that RGIII's time in Washington is coming to an end. Getting benched for Colt McCoy doesn't help matters much either. Should the Redskins opt to trade him, it seems likely that the Eagles, Bills and possibly other teams would be willing to take him on as a high upside reclamation project.
