Daedalic Entertainment, the German developer of "Blackguards," has announced that it will be making a a game based on Ken Follett's best-selling historical novel "The Pillars of the Earth," according to a report at Gameranx.
This plot of this book does not seem to be one that would immediately strike someone as ripe for a video game adaptation. Written by Ken Follett and first published in 1989, "The Pillars of the Earth" follows disputes between clergy, nobility, and lay people, revolving around the construction of a cathedral in a chaotic 12th century England. The book was adapted into a miniseries in 2010 that aired on Starz in the U.S. and Channel 4 in the UK.
Founder and CEO of Daedalic Carsten Fichtelmann stated that the adventure game genre would be the best way to adapt this rather challenging material.
"I'm thrilled that 'The Pillars of the Earth' is going to be turned into a computer game by Daedalic," said Follett. "I believe this will bring my work to the attention of a new generation of readers."
The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and iOS in 2017, in conjunction with a brand new book in the series.
