Last season we were left with a whole bunch of questions—like usual. How did Detective Wilden’s vehicle get out of the lake? Why are Shana, Jenna and Melissa all together? Who set the house on fire? Oh and what was in the trunk of the car?
We get an answer to the last question pretty soon as the four liars, accompanied by Mona, open the trunk to reveal—the dead body—of a pig. Yup, a pig.
The girls get ready to leave but before they do, Mona takes the drive that holds the video incriminating Hannah’s mother out of the vehicle.
Upon returning to Spencer’s house, the liars interrogate Mona. In about a 30-second series of dissolves and camera pans we get answers to some of the questions we had:

Mona and the liars return to her lair—also known as her trailer park home—where they get more answers. We see a video on Mona’s laptop that shows Detective Wilden was ONE of the Queen of Hearts—yes, there were two. Mona says the other was Melissa but before the video can confirm that statement someone hacks into Mona’s computer and deletes all of her files.
Afterthey walk outside they meet five girls playing in the trailer park playground. They each have a doll with the same names as the liars and Mona. When asked about where the girls got the dolls from, they say it was a gift from Mona’s friend Allison.
We see Toby walking through the woods after being hit over the head at end of Season 3. He comes back to a burnt house where a firefighter picks up the famous red coat. He and Spencer return to the scene later to look for the red coat but it seems another person was also in the house’s remains and may have escaped with it.
Now on to the less suspenseful storylines:
Aria and Ezra have an awkward encounter at the coffee shop where Ezra suggests she could date other people. She eventually takes his advice after fearing the worst from a meeting with the Rosewood vice principal.
Emily and Paige talk about going to Stanford even though Emily was planning to go to Danby. Emily agrees to go to Stanford. After Paige leaves Emily’s house Emily is met by Jenna. Jenna asks her to tell Toby she is sorry and “never meant to hurt him.”
Hannah pretends to be Mona’s friend again to get back the drive (which Mona kept after retrieving it from the car so she could examine it.) Mona sees right through her charade and hands her the drive anyway.
Ali’s mom, Jessica DiLaurentis, returns to Rosewood. We’ll see what role she plays as the series progresses.
The show has an interesting ending as usual.
The girls get a text from “A” that forces them to go to Detective Wilden’s funeral. There they are able to recovered Ashley Marin’s—Hannah’s mother—cellphone from Wilden’s casket. Also a mysterious person, whose face is covered with a black veil, attends the funeral.
After receiving a text about his mother, “A” forces Toby to drop of the lair at a specific location. As he is driving he recalls a moment when Ali met his mother. After meeting his mother—who is obviously going through something— Ali tells Toby his mother is lazy and Toby kicks Ali out of his house. Has Toby betrayed the liars again? We’ll see.
The show ends, as usual, with a hooded “A.” “A” seems to have another doll, who looks a lot like Mona—that she places next to the four original dolls. “A” takes of its hood to reveal—a burnt mask.
