Yes, that's right. Playoffs. For most of you fantasy owners out there, you'll know whether you made the playoffs or not after tonight's game. If you did, and you're looking for a little extra fire power, here are three free agents that could help you out.
1. Tre Mason, RB, St. Louis Rams
Mason is only owned in 65.4 percent of ESPN leagues. That should change RIGHT NOW. Mason has clearly emerged as not only the top back in St. Louis, but a fantasy beast overall. His 164 yards, three touchdowns total performance yesterday cemented that fact.
Since his season debut in Week 6, Mason has accounted for 674 yards and four touchdowns. He's averaging 4.6 yards per carry and 9.3 yards per reception. I told you during the preseason that Mason would unseat Benny Cunningham on the depth chart. I just didn't expect Mason to then unseat Zac Stacy (I'm a disgruntled Stacy owner).
Grab Mason if he's still available. He could swing the playoffs for you.
2. Kenny Stills, WR, New Orleans Saints
He's owned in just 17.6 percent of ESPN leagues. Forget about his disappointing season thus far. I know he hasn't lived up the hype he created by leading the NFL in yards per reception last season. But the guy has been killing in over the last two weeks. Five vertical targets (passes of 15-plus yards) in his last two games has allowed Stills to get open for 98 yards and 162 yards, respectively. A touchdown yesterday against the Steelers also didn't hurt .Stills would have had an additional 76-yard score if Drew Brees didn't miss the throw.
New Orleans' remaining opponents (Panthers, Bears, Falcons, Bucs) all have problems defending the deep ball. The stage is set for fantasy success.
3. Stedman Bailey, WR, St. Louis Rams
Two St. Louis Rams players listed in a fantasy football column?!?! I don't believe it. I thought the New York Jets would find a franchise quarterback long before the Rams had viable offensive options. But STL has done a nice job of accumulating talent recently, with Bailey being the most recent example. The second-year receiver has racked up 12 catches for 189 yards and one score over the last two weeks. Plus, he plays against my Washington Redskins and their Swiss cheese defense next week, so you know he's going off again.
