Florida Woman Tasers 3-Year-Old Nephew, Police Say

A Florida woman was held on felony child abuse charges after she allegedly used a Taser on her young nephew, Bay News 9 reported.

Ramona Braswell, 30, is accused of using the Taser on her 3-year-old nephew's left arm at a home in St. Petersburg on Saturday, police told the station.

The child's unnamed mother was at the home on 5th South Street when she heard her son cry out from the living room. She ran into the room to find her sister, Braswell, laughing while holding a Taser and standing near the boy, according to St. Petersburg police. Braswell also kept activating the weapon but did not touch the toddler, police said.

When the toddler told his mother Braswell used the Taser on him, she denied it. However, visible injures left on the boy's arm indicate he had been shocked, authorities told Bay News 9.

The mother called police to her home and Braswell was taken into custody. Upon questioning she denied shocking her nephew, but said she was "playing" with the Taser, which belonged to her friend. Braswell said she only placed the device's handle on her nephew's arm and not the part that shocks, the station reported.

The aunt was released from the Pinellas County Jail on $5,000 bond after she was charged with one count of child abuse, according to WFLA.
