During Nintendo's remote press event at E3 on Tuesday, the company made several announcements for new games and familiar titles for the Wii U console and the Nintendo 3DS personal gaming system. Among the new and familiar titles was the announcement of "Pokemon X" and "Pokemon Y" for the 3DS.
The big news at the first announcement of these games was the addition of a new Fairy type Pokemon that will be very effective against dragon type Pokemon. At a special Pokemon press conference at E3 on Wednesday, the Pokemon Company revealed more information about the new games.
For Pokemon trainers who would like to do something more efficient with their Pokemon, you're in luck. Players can now ride certain larger breeds. A clip shown at the exclusive event showed a trainer mounting a Rhyhorn and riding it through the wilds of Kalos according to IGN.
The game, like many 3DS titles will take advantage of the device's ability to recognize other 3DS users in the area. Playing near another gamer will automatically put you at "passerby" status. You can then upgrade to "acquaintance" status and, eventually, full fledged "friend" status. The hope is this will be the focal point of the game's interactive elements.
Another new Pokemon was announced to go along with the announcement of Sky Battles. Talonflame will be among the new Pokemon coming to X&Y. Sky Battles will be exactly like they sound and take place in the air, limiting the skirmish to aerial types.
The company spoke a bit about Horde Encounters. IGN reports, in the interest of adding challenge to the game, the usual "random encounters" will now sometimes include a situation where players have to fight multiple Pokemon at once. For every one attack your Pokemon gets, everyone in the enemy party gets one attack to retaliate.
The new game will be set in a stylized version of France and will be available to the public worldwide on Oct. 12.
