The Edmonton Oilers, whose depth down the center of their roster is about as shallow as Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, are in need of centermen.
The Philadelphia Flyers meanwhile, are desperately searching for all the blueline help they can get for a defense as overpaid and performing as poorly as, well, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.
Could the two needs join forces to create a match made in Hockey Trade Heaven?
Potentially.
The Oilers, long rumored to be part of numerous (see; all) trade discussions as their season falls apart and the future slips away, are at the center of yet another possible deal. This one, from Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal, involves a player that has been offered up before as an object of their affection - young Flyers center, Brayden Schenn - but now it includes one of their own young, up-and-coming players - defenseman, Justin Schultz.
Schenn, a former first-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings, is, like many of the Philadelphia Flyers forwards, underperforming this season. He's bounced around the lineup and currently has seven goals and 10 assists, according to HockeyDB.com.
He's got a fairly strong two-way game that should continue to develop as he gets more seasoning - he's still only 23-years-old - but he is still untapped potential more than anything at this point in his professional career.
Schultz, 24, is slightly older but brings speed and a strong offensive game to the blueline. He's got two goals and eight assists so far this season, per Hockey-Reference.com, after he posted 11 goals and 22 assists in 74 games last year.
Matheson also muses about the potential additions of Oilers winger David Perron - another guy whose name seemingly comes up in connection to every possible Edmonton trade scenario - and Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn in a deal, which is intriguing.
But that adds a lot more moving parts and, while it makes a trade more interesting, also makes it much less likely.
