While everyone seems focused on Xbox One bundles and price drops and the sales behemoth that is the PlayStation 4, Nintendo (and its Wii U) has been lurking in the background... steadily churning out quality games to help bolster system sales. With Black Friday being one of the busiest shopping days of the season, one would think that sales of the Wii U would see a spike.
According to eBay (via NY Daily News), the Wii U and iPad Air 2 were two of the biggest sellers on Black Friday. The Wii U Black Deluxe Set sold 4,000 units in a 17 minute time span, which works out to just about four systems per second. Assuming that was the peak of the customer purchasing, it will be interesting to see how many total units were sold when the latest NPD numbers are revealed.
Overall, there were "reports of record-breaking online sales" in the first two days of the holiday shopping season, said Matthew Shay, CEO of the National Retail Federation.
"We are encouraged by what we've seen thus far with eager Thanksgiving Day and early Black Friday shoppers lining up...and of course, we are anticipating big numbers on Cyber Monday too," said Shay.
