'Supergirl': Claire Holt, of 'Vampire Diaries' Fame, Up for Title Role

Aussie Claire Holt, who plays Rebekah on the CW's "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals," is apparently one of a number of actresses testing to play the title role in CBS' upcoming "Supergirl" television series, according to Comic Book Movie.

The series, which will be produced by Greg Berlanti of "Arrow" and "The Flash" fame, will debut on CBS in the fall. It has a 13-episode initial order locked and loaded. On top of that, it was recently revealed that the series could possibly take place in the same universe as Berlanti's other, CW superhero series.

Holt has previously appeared on "Pretty Little Liars" and "H2O: Just Add Water." At the moment, she's filming a TV series titled "Aquarius." Supergirl was most recently played on the small screen by Laura Vandervoort on "Smallville"...who in many ways bears a striking resemblance to Holt. Coincidence? I think not.

While it is obvious that CBS wants a pretty girl to play Kara Zor El, they might want to choose a lady with some gravitas as well. Check out the list that I complied a couple months back, when the series was first announced, and see if you agree with my thoughts on this rather important role.
