Rosario Dawson Adopts A 12-Year-Old Girl – Report

Rosario Dawson was adopted by her stepfather at age one, and she has considered following his lead to adopt her own child someday. The day came this past October when she adopted a 12-year-old girl, according to Page Six.

The 35-year-old actress never knew her biological father. She always considered her mother's ex-husband Greg Dawson to be her real dad. Her mother gave birth at age 17.

"He's always been my dad," she told the Daily Mail in 2007. "He loved my mom and he loved me. That was really amazing. He was strong for a young man of just 21."

Dawson has spoken about her interest in adoption, especially an older child who may never find a home before they age out of the system.

"I always wanted to adopt kids 'cause my Dad adopted me," the "Top Five" actress told Latina magazine in 2008. "Lately, I've been thinking about it more. My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they're getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children, going 'Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could've known her.'"

She continued, "That makes me sad 'cause it would be a waste to not have these people know each other. Whatever time I have, I want it."

Dawson previously date actor Jason Lewis for two years before breaking up in 2006. She then started dating director Danny Boyle in 2012 after he cast her in his film "Trance." The couple split the next year and she is currently single.

She stars in the new Chris Rock film "Top Five," which opens on Dec. 12. She will also appears in the new Marvel TV series "Daredevil" on Netflix. The show will premiere early next year.
