ISIS: Oklahoma Man Killed By Egyptian Militants Tied To Islamic State

An Egyptian militant group allied with the Islamic State took responsibility over the weekend for killing an Oklahoma man working in Cairo.

The 58-year-old oil worker, William Henderson, was shot on Aug. 6 while driving to an oil well site near Cairo, according to family attorney Stephen Jones, reported The Oklahoman.

Pictures of Henderson's passport and company identification cards were posted to Twitter late Sunday by Egyptian militant group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, more recently known as the Sinai Province, who claimed responsibility for the murder.

According to his ID cards, Henderson was working for Texas-based energy company Apache Corporation together with the Egyptian government, The Associated Press reported.

As Henderson approached a highway intersection, he came upon a parked sports utility vehicle, according to Jones, who said that the militants appeared from behind a barrier and killed Henderson.

The autopsy conducted in Egypt and Texas revealed that Henderson was shot through the arm and torso, leading to punctured vital organs, said Jones.

Apache announced in August that a supervisor had been killed in a carjacking in Egypt's Western Desert, but the company kept the identity secret.

An obituary was published in a northwestern Oklahoma paper, the Enid News & Eagle, in August, saying the man had "passed suddenly" while working in Egypt. The obituary identified the person as a 58-year-old man who worked for Apache for 28 years.

The U.S. embassy would not comment to AP regarding the murder.

In a separate statement released Sunday, the Sinai Province also claimed responsibility for more than 10 additional attacks over the past four weeks, including killing seven police officers, blowing up six army and police vehicles, and destroying the house of a suspected army spy, reported AP.

After attacking an army checkpoint in October, killing 31 soldiers, the Sinai Peninsula has been under a state of emergency.

The group reportedly pledged its allegiance to the Islamic State group last month.
