The death of a Wisconsin college student and gymnast is being investigated by police after her body was discovered in a dumbwaiter at a bar and grill, the New York Post reported on Wednesday.
Police showed up to the WingDam Saloon and Grill in Fountain City after receiving a 911 call at 8 p.m. on Monday. The woman, who worked at the bar, was found dead in the kitchen's food elevator.
The victim was identified as Brooke Baures, 21, a senior university student majoring in social work. The dumpwaiter's opening is only about 3 feet by 3 feet, and accidents are said to be rare by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Two accidents, both fatal, happened between 2003 and 2013 in the U.S.
Baures' job as a server at the restaurant included using the dumpwaiter because the restaurant was two-stories. Fountain City Police Chief Jason Mork said he couldn't speculate into how her death may have happened, Kare 11 reported.
Baures was also on the Wisconsin State University gymnastics team, according to a statement from the university.
"Brooke was a leader on that team and a very talented gymnast," said Eric Schoh, WSU Athletic Director. "This is a tremendous loss for our community, and we ask that you keep Brooke and her family, friends, coaches and teammates in your thoughts."
