The Washington Redskins have three quarterbacks on their roster and it's possible none of them will return to the team next season. There are serious doubts within the organization about Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy.
RGIII has failed to regain his scintillating rookie form after suffering a torn ACL and dislocated ankle during his three-year career. Due to a multitude of factors - injuries, poor offensive line play, coaching troubles, etc. - RGIII's relationship with Washington has soured to some extent as he has won just one game that he started and finished out of his last 11.
"No quarterback who has received significant snaps this year has played worse than Griffin," ESPN's Matt Williamson wrote. "...We all know the story by now, though, and though I think Washington should keep Griffin and dedicate its efforts to improving him, it certainly wouldn't be shocking if the Redskins moved on at this point. Maybe a new system, city and overall situation could revitalize a once-promising career that is quickly spiraling in the wrong direction. Imagine Griffin in Buffalo, where he wouldn't be pressed into starting duty right away with Kyle Orton backing him up."
There are a handful of teams that would make sense as potential trading partners, should the Redskins opt to go that route.
McCoy will start for the Redskins this Sunday when they play the St. Louis Rams. He is 2-1 in the three games he's appeared in this season. But it is highly unlikely that the fifth-year veteran will earn a starting job with the team moving forward.
"McCoy probably will be back but...McCoy is a free agent this offseason, having signed a one-year deal last spring," Rich Tandler of RealRedskins.com wrote. "That was a minimum-salary deal and it's going to take more than that to get him to return.
"He will get other offers since teams are desperate for quarterbacks. I don't see a bidding war breaking out and he likely will be inclined to return to Washington but it's not a sure thing."
