Shakira's got it all under control, at least when it comes to her relationship with Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique. The Columbian songstress opened up about her romance, how they make it work and the joys of motherhood in the new issue of Elle magazine.
The sultry singer told the magazine that the main secret to her lasting relationship with Pique is that they both respect each other's privacy.
"He has his own world and that's actually one of the healthiest things about the relationship," the singer said. "I know that he's the one person who is with me not because of any interest other than the love that unites us. There's nothing I can offer him beyond my womanhood."
The two began dating back in 2010, Wetpaint reports. but kept the relationship secret for nearly a year. Reputedly they met on the set of her music for "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)." Nobody knew the two were dating until Shakira announced it on Twitter in March 2011. She posted a picture of herself with Pique with the caption "I present to you my sunshine."
In her cover story for Elle she talked about she almost gave up on love before finding Pique.
"For a few years... I was not feeling the love," she confessed to the magazine. "Suddenly, I met Gerard and the sun comes out."
On the cover, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer is seen wearing a Versace silk top paired with black Diane von Furstenberg shorts. Just four months after giving birth to their son, Milan, Shakira had no problem showing off her post-pregnancy body telling the publication that she and Pique are still trying to adjust to being parents.
"I'm still trying to figure it out," she said. "And I have a feeling I will try to do the same for the rest of my life. Some people put it like it's very idyllic, some people put it like it's a torturing experience, but it's not quite one thing or the other. It's like life - it comes with everything."
After finishing with "The Voice" she told the magazine she plans on going back to Spain to focus on parenthood and an upcoming album but said she has no idea where she wants her music to go.
"I have no idea of where I want to go musically, but I'm fine that way," she said. "I don't need to remain faithful to one thing, you know."
