A suspect has been arrested in the death of an American teacher in a mall in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Fox News reported on Thursday.
According to the country's news agency, WAM, Interior Minister Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan said on Thursday that the same person is suspected of placing a bomb was also planted outside the home of a doctor from America, though it was dismantled before exploding.
The teacher was allegedly stabbed by a person wearing full black attire normally worn by women in the Gulf Arab area.
The suspected attacker's name has not been released, but the identity of the teacher who was killed was released on Wednesday by the recruiting company that placed her in her teaching position.
Ibolya Ryan, 47, was the mother of 11-year-old twin sons and was killed in the mall bathroom.
Ryan was born in Romania, and later became a U.S. citizen. She began her teaching career in the U.S. before being assigned to the United Arab Emirates in September 2013, according to Ben Glickman, CEO of Canadian recruiting company, Footprints Recruiting.
The boy's father, Ryan's ex-husband, flew in from overseas to be reunited with his children.
The UAE used the country's extensive security camera footage to nab the suspect. The surveillance video shows a heavier suspect wearing a black cloak, gloves and veil exiting the mall building. The person is then seen rolling a suitcase with devices that appear to be made out of red tape and soda cans, then driving through traffic in a white SUV that had a UAE flag draped over its license plate, USA Today reported.
Footage that was released later shows a raid at a home with the same car outside, and a stockier woman with dark hair being taken from the home by police.
