Bronx Woman Killed By Gun Shot To Head

Dune Janelle Jacobs was shot while walking home from work in the Bronx, and police found her sprawled out on the sidewalk around 2 a.m., according to the New York Times.

"How could something like this happen?" said Jacobs' 14-year-old niece, Jada Carter. "She's such a good person!"

Before shots rang out, Jacobs was seen arguing with three men, the NY Daily News reported. She was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where she died at 2:15 a.m.

Jacobs, 33, had no criminal record and did not appear to be quarreling with anyone, police sources and relatives said.

"There's no reason for her to be targeted - she wasn't involved in anything negative," said Jacobs' brother-in-law, Rich Carter.

Police say the three suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a white Nissan Altima, which they later abandoned, the Times reported.

"She didn't want to be around here," Carter told the Daily News on Tuesday. "She didn't like this neighborhood. She thought there was too much gang activity. And she was right because this happened to her."

Jacobs was openly gay and was in the process of moving to Brooklyn so she could be closer to her job at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Atlantic Center mall, according to the Daily News.

The Altima was found with a box of champagne in the backseat a couple blocks away from where Jacobs was gunned down.
