Marvel and Netflix have cast Krysten Ritter to play the title role in their new series "A.K.A. Jessica Jones."
"Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes," Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television, told Marvel.com. "As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more."
Netflix ordered four new shows centered on Marvel characters including Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. "Daredevil" will kick off first in 2015 and each show will then culminate in a miniseries about "The Defenders," a "dream team of heroic characters," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
"Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands," executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg told Marvel.com. "We can't wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015."
Ritter starred in the cancelled ABC series "Don't Trust the B-in Apartment 23." She's recently appeared in "The Blacklist," "Breaking Bad" and the "Veronica Mars" movie. She was set to star in the NBC series "Mission Control," but the network cancelled the show before it aired.
"Daredevil" will star Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock a.k.a. Daredevil. The crimefighter was blinded as a child, but instilled with extraordinary senses to compensate. He now fights for justice as a lawyer during the day and as his alter ego Daredevil at night.
Marvel's first original live-action series on Netflix will take place in modern day Hell's Kitchen in New York City. Cox will co-star with Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page, Murdock's love interest), Scott Glenn (Stick, a mysterious martial artist and Murdock's mentor), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson, Murdock's best friend) and Vincent D'Onofrio as super villain, The Kingpin.
