Bill Cosby's former supporters are distancing themselves even further from the comedian who has been accused of multiple rapes.
The Navy has stripped Cosby of his honorary title of Chief Petty Officer in response to the allegations, stating that the allegations are serious enough to go against the Navy's value system, CBS News reported.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and Master Chief Petty Officer Michael Stevens.
The actor enlisted in the Navy in 1956 and served for four years in a hospital before receiving a honorary discharge as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. Cosby was given the title officially in 2011.
Cosby, 77, has stayed mum on the mounting and steadily increasing accusations of rape against him.
Netflix has postponed its planned Cosby comedy special, and NBC has since decided to pull its new Cosby series. NBC finalized a deal last year that would have placed Cosby in a role similar to the one he played on "The Cosby Show," CBS reported.
Netflix's Cosby show, "Bill Cosby 77," was supposed to premiere on Nov. 29.
Most recently, model Janice Dickinson accused Cosby of raping her in 1982. His attorney, Martin Singer, issued a statement in rebuttal. Cosby himself has never acknowledged any of the accusations to either accept or deny them. He did tweet about Whoopi Goldberg and Jill Scott to thank them for their public support.
"Janice's story accusing Bill Cosby of rape is a complete lie. There is documentary proof that Janice Dickinson is fabricating and lying about Bill Cosby," the lawyer's statement said.
