"Biggest Loser" star Damien Gurganious died on Nov. 24 from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, an autoimmune disorder that causes bleeding in the brain. His wife, Nicole Brewer Gurganious, reportedly confirmed the news on her Facebook page, Entertainment Weekly reports. Damien was 38.
"As most of you know, I never post on social media. So, it's highly ironic and deeply sad that my first true post is to inform you of the tragic loss of my beloved husband, Damien Gurganious," she wrote. "Damien always desired to bring out the best in those around him offering encouragement, support and love, often couched in his own hilarious and sage adages."
"He was a pillar of his family, an amazing son, brother, cousin and uncle," she continued. "He was an incredible husband and father to his 2-year-old daughter, Giselle. He was an inspiration and a mentor to so many. His love for his family and friends was immense."
A spokesman for NBC told US Weekly that that they will honor the late contestant in a memoriam following the Dec. 11 episode.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of Damien Gurganious' passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Damien's wife and daughter, Nicole and Giselle, as well as both of their families during this difficult time," NBC wrote in a statement.
According to E! Online Damien and his wife competed on the 2009 season of "Biggest Loser: Couples" and were sent home the third week. At the time they were still engaged and married shortly after being eliminated.
"Sending love to Damien Gurganious' family. So sad to lose a member of our #BiggestLoser family," the show posted on their official Twitter page.
