"Pan" writer Jason Fuchs will leave Neverland behind and venture to Paradise Island to script the 2017 movie "Wonder Woman." The screenwriter joins director Michelle MacLaren and star Gal Gadot on the production.
Fuchs is in negotiations to write the screenplay for the DC Entertainment/Warner Bros. film that will bridge the gap between "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" in summer 2016 and "Justice League Part One" in fall 2017, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The former will introduce Gadot's heroine, warrior princess of the Amazons, also known as Diana Prince.
The 28-year-old writer will work with MacLaren to develop the story for Wonder Woman's solo outing. The director is best known for helming some of the best episodes of "Breaking Bad" and "Game of Thrones."
Warner Bros. actively sought out female directors for the movie. Others considered included Oscar-winning Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker"), Catherine Hardwicke ("Twilight"), Mimi Leder ("Deep Impact") and Tricia Brock ("The Walking Dead").
Fuchs will continue to work closely with Warner Bros. for the foreseeable future. The studio hopes to make "Pan" into a franchise and already has Fuchs working on a sequel. The first film, starring Hugh Jackman, premieres on July 17, 2015.
"Wonder Woman" will open in theaters on June 23, 2017.
