Brandon Marshall, long considered one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL, has been anything but this season. Nagging injuries and poor play all around Chicago's offense has contributed to a career-low level of production and, unfortunately, it looks as if Marshall won't have the opportunity to turn it around.
Marshall, who has struggled with ankle sprains all season, took a knee to his back in the second quarter of last night's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Bears went on to lose 41-28 and dropped to 5-8 on the season. With only three games left and virtually no chance to make the post-season, the Bears have little reason to rush the 30-year-old receiver back on the field.
Second-year receiver Marquess Wilson is likely to fill in for Marshall. Wilson missed the first two months of the season with a broken collarbone. He finished last night's game with two receptions for 19 yards. Receiver Alshon Jeffery and tight end Martellus Bennett should both see an increase in targets as well.
If Marshall is done for the season, he will finish this year with 61 catches for 721 yards and eight touchdowns.
