NHL RUMORS: St. Louis Blues Brian Elliott On The Trade Block? Edmonton And Dallas Possible Landing Spots

Jake Allen said recently that he never envisioned playing on the same team as ageless wonder Martin Brodeur, who signed with the Blues after starter Brian Elliott went down with a lower body injury.

You can bet Elliott probably felt the same way.

If the latest rumor is true, he may never actually get that chance.

Elliott, per TheFourthPeriod.com, could be on the trading block as Brodeur's signing gives the team a surplus of capable goaltenders.

"The Blues want to see Brodeur in action before making any rash decisions, but it's believed they will consider trading Elliott, suggested Sportsnet analyst Nick Kypreos while speaking Thursday morning on Sportsnet The Fan 590," the website reported.

In Brodeur's first action of the season last night against the Nashville Predators he allowed four goals on 24 shots in a losing effort.

"It felt pretty good," Brodeur said, per NHL.com. "Everything was new. Got a lot of work right from the get-go too. That helped me get in the game. It's about making that one save in the third that got away from me that could have made a difference."

The Blues will obviously want to see Brodeur in more than one game before making any final decisions on Elliott, who is in the first year of a three-year, $7.5 million deal.

Prior to his injury, Elliott had a 1.82 GAA and.931 SV% in 14 games.

He's a quality goaltender still in the prime of his career - no small thing. For St. Louis to give up on him they'd have to be extremely sold on both Brodeur's ability to carry the brunt of the load this season and Allen's future expected development.

As for teams that could be potentially interested in acquiring him, the seemingly ubiquitous Edmonton Oilers - who want to replace just about everyone on their roster - and the defensively deficient Dallas Stars are a couple of logical landing spots, per TFP.
