Google's Inbox team revealed on Wednesday that it plans on updating the invite-only app with an "undo send" feature.
The intent of adding this feature was announced by Inbox team members on Reddit, with a Google Inbox software engineer going by the Reddit name Taylor K saying the undo send option was one of two features he wished were including in the app when it was launched in October, according to ZDNet. The other feature was cross-browser support.
"Both are being worked on, but just weren't ready in time for launch," Taylor K said.
Other features the team is working on include tablet support, Google Drive integration and possibly a unified inbox that would provide multiple addresses in one view. The team is also working on a "long list" of Gmail features that will be made available on Inbox, such as signatures and Google Calendar integration.
Whether or not the undo send feature would operate similar to Gmails' 10-second undo send setting has yet to be revealed.
Fellow Reddit user Jason C said Google wanted to "start from scratch" with a new email platform instead of adding Inbox capabilities to Gmail so the company can learn how people use email. He added the team found that most people view email as a to-do list and that people are starting to use their phones more than desktops. They also found that most people look at email as a lot of work that needs to be done.
"We built Inbox as a separate product because we didn't feel we could solve those problems by just adding more features on to Gmail. We needed to start from scratch to build a tool that really helps you stay on top of your life," Jason C said.
The proposed undo send feature has several beneficial uses, such as fixing typos in emails or removing people that were copied unintentionally, BGR reported.
The Google Inbox team did not provide a specific release date for the new feature, but they indicated that it will make its debut soon.
