NFL Rumors: Philadelphia Eagles Chip Kelly Battling With GM?

The NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles appear to be riding high after a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Dallas Cowboys. But despite the outward success, the mood behind closed doors may not be as cheery.

Apparently, there is some conflict between Eagles head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Howie Roseman.

"There have been persistent rumblings about shifting dynamics behind the scenes: Namely, that Kelly and Roseman's relationship has cooled and that the collaborative process between coach and general manager is not where it once was (Kelly and vice president of player personnel Tom] Gamble remain tight, per source)," Tim McManus of Birds 24/7 wrote. "Kelly's clout within the organization is growing as his methods continue to bear fruit."

Others aren't quite as sure, and downplay any potential problems between the two.

"Chip gets whatever he wants," Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News wrote. "I don't think anyone has said they don't get along, it's a matter of whether Howie has the stature he seemed to have there for a few years.

"Chip might or might not be more comfortable with somebody he picked to run personnel, clearly under him. Howie is supposed to be kind of an equal to Chip, but it has become clear he is not."

Owner Jeffrey Lurie gave Kelly final say over the 53-man roster when he hired him in 2013. If McManus is to be believed, Kelly's influence over the roster is growing, thus limiting Roseman's power. Expect this issue to be hashed out during the offseason.
