Marine Arrested For Allegedly Beating Girlfriend's 5-Month-Old Baby Into Coma

A U.S. Marine was arrested for beating his girlfriend's 5-month-old baby into a coma on Wednesday in California.

John Jeter, 24, allegedly left the infant so severely hurt that she fell into a coma, reported KTLA 5, a local TV network.

The infant was flown to Loma Linda University Children's Hospital where doctors said she was in a coma from a brain hemorrhage, reported KTLA.

Jeter, who is stationed at 29 Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, was the main suspect in the case. He was arrested on Nov. 21 after being questioned by authorities for suspicions of "assault resulting in death, comatose state, or paralysis of a child under 8 years of age," reported KTLA.

The Marine is being held on $500,000 bail and is expected to appear in court on Dec. 9.
