Luke Somers: U.S. And Yemen Teamed Up To Free American Hostage Luke Somers, Status Unknown (BREAKING NEWS)

The United States and Yemen joined forces on Saturday to free American hostage Luke Somers, according to NBC News. Somers' status is currently unclear, although his sister Lucy Somers has reportedly said that her brother was killed during the failed rescue attempt, according to The Telegraph.

Washington has not commented, according to The Telegraph. The Telegraph reports that Yemen security official remarked that a suspected U.S. air strike killed nine alleged al-Qaeda members, while NBC News reports that the rescue attempt in the province of Shabwa resulted in the death of 10 militants.

The rescue attempt happened two days after the Pentagon admitted an earlier attempt in which a U.S. commando went missing.

Somers is a 33-year-old British-born U.S. citizen. The teacher and photojournalist was abducted a year ago in Yemen's capitol, Sanaa, by an al-Qaeda affiliate, according to The Telegraph.
