TNT expands the "The Librarian" universe with a new group of guardians to protect Earth's magical artifacts. Rebecca Romijn serves as their protector in the new series "The Librarians."
"I play a guardian to everybody, their ass-kicking bodyguard," Romijn told Headlines & Global News. "So I get to do a lot of fight scenes and I'm sort of the straight man of the group, sort of the skeptic, which I think is sometimes the funniest to play."
Noah Wyle originated the role of librarian-turned-adventurer in first three "The Librarian" TV movies, including "Quest for the Spear," "Return to King Solomon's Mines" and "The Curse of the Judas Chalice." He will make guest appearances on the show along with his movie co-stars, Jane Curtain and Bob Newhart.
"It's Noah Wyle's baby and a franchise he started 10 years ago," Romijn said. "It's not like any other show out there right now. It's an action-adventure show; it feels a little like 'Indiana Jones,' but very funny."
The job as sole librarian has become too much for Wyle's Flynn Carsen, and the Library recruits four new people to take some of the burden off Flynn. Romijn's Eve Baird is responsible for keeping her teammates alive as they defend the world from dark magic.
Her team consists of Jacob Stone, played by Christian Kane, who has an IQ of 190 and an encyclopedic knowledge of art history; Cassandra Cillian, played by Lindy Booth, who has the special gift of auditory and sensory hallucinations linked to memory retrieval, known as synesthesia; and Ezekiel Jones, played by John Kim, who is a master of new technologies and aficionado of old classic crimes.
John Larroquette also stars as Jenkins who oversees the new group. He's an expert in ancient lore and has worked out of the Library's branch office for longer than anyone knows.
"I'm very excited and very proud of it. Fingers crossed. It's a very exciting time," Romijn said.
"The Librarians" debuts on Sunday, Dec. 7 with a two-hour series premiere at 8 p.m.
