Offensive Christmas Card, Poking Fun At Public Housing, Pulled From U.K. Stores

A British card shop apologized after receiving backlash on a Santa Claus Christmas card that pokes fun of those who live on a council estate.

The card, sold by Clintons, a U.K. company, was offensive to many people, as it depicted people from council estates as alcoholics who don't do their jobs. A council estate is a form of public housing.

After the repetitive backlash on Twitter - among other social media platforms - Clintons issued an apology in place of the card on its website.

We apologize but this card in our range has been withdrawn. It is in no way reflective of our views and we apologize without reservation. We are investigating how this offensive card got through our quality control procedures, which we will review and tighten as a result of this incident. This was a mistake and we deeply regret the upset that this has clearly caused.
