Patrik Berglund has spent every season of his six-plus year career with the St. Louis Blues after entering the league as a 20-year-old rookie via the first-round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
He's been a constant and consistent - if not irreplaceable - cog in the Blues' machine since.
He hasn't finished a season with less than 25 total points in his career, and currently has three goals and four assists through the quarter point of this season.
But it sounds like the Blues, on the verge of serious Cup contention for what now seems like years, are reportedly interested - and have been for some time - in moving Berglund in an effort to bolster their lineup for the playoff push.
"They've been looking to deal him for the longest time. If they add, he's the one to be at the top of the package," one league scout told TheFourthPeriod.com Senior Writer Dennis Bernstein.
Berglund, 26, is in the first year of a three-year, $11.1 million contract.
In four trips to the playoffs, he's got four goals and five assists.
He's a bigger player that combines good skating ability with the power to drive the net. He's got good offensive instincts and he's a strong wrister.
Overall, Berglund is a talented player who doesn't consistently play up to his abilities. Potential-wise, he could be one of the best two-way players in the league.
But his inability to reach that high level game in and game out is probably the reason the Blues are willing to see him head elsewhere.
